Care For Your Invisalign Orthodontic Retainers; Dr. Dmitry Sokol shares his thoughts!

After Invisalign orthodontics, Dr. Dmitry Sokol doesn’t want his patient’s teeth to return to the original positions they were in before ortho treatment.  Orthodontic retainers – whether they are Invisalign clear plastic retainers or traditional wire retainers – prevent this from happening by assisting your teeth to remain in their newly corrected positions.  Dr. Dmitry Sokol and his well-trained staff at their Lincolnshire, IL office take custom impressions in order to make these specially made orthodontic retainers.

Invisalign orthodontic retainers are usually worn on a full-time basis during the first few months after they’re received – wearing time may then be gradually reduced as determined by Dr. Dmitry Sokol.  It will not be necessary to visit Dr. Sokol at Village Green Dentistry as often as was required during your Invisalign orthodontic treatment; however, this does not mean this final phase of treatment is unimportant.  Dr. Sokol will provide you with special wearing instructions that are necessary, and all dental appointments must be kept to insure that treatment is successfully completed.

Your speech patterns may be slightly affected during the first week of wear with dental orthodontic retainers – this will disappear as you get used to the appliance.  Dr. Dmitry Sokol suggests that, although your Invisalign retainers are removable, it be worn at all times, unless otherwise instructed.  Some traditional orthodontic retainers may either be removable or cemented to the teeth.  In all cases, call Village Green Dentistry to make an appointment with Dr. Sokol immediately if a cemented wire should loosen or break, or if your Invisalign retainers crack or become disfigured.

Removable retainers should be cleaned after each meal – this also provides an excellent opportunity to brush your teeth.  All orthodontic retainers should be rinsed thoroughly after cleaning and immediately returned to your mouth.

Never wrap your Invisalign retainers in a napkin or put it in your pocket.

Always store it in the carrying case your dentist – Dr. Dmitry Sokol – provides.    Remember, the most ideal place to store your orthodontic retainer is in your mouth.
